I guess quite simply because it’s an evolutionarily inherited trait to be, animals that aren’t ever afraid are much more likely to end up dead, so any genetic tendency to suppress fear significantly would often get weeded out.

Why you’re afraid of bugs, however, I’d say is probably a tiny bit of faulty wiring in the brain - like I think all phobias seem to be. :)
